The Red Lion is situated on Warrington Road, comprising of a large lounge, bar, non-smoking area, and a supervised children's adventure play barn (The Wacky Warehouse). The Red Lion is the perfect venue for a family outing or party.

The Red Lion has an extensive food menu and the special's board always boasts a wide variety of local and ethnic meals.

Being owned by Carlsberg-Tetley Brewing Ltd there is always a quality range of hand pulled beers, and lager's, with meals being served all day, until 10pm (9pm for the kids).


The Ferry Tavern is situated over the Sankey Valley Canal, just off Station Road. There are two large beer gardens on either side of the main building, including children's play area, and a Donkey enclosure.

There are many benches along the banks of the Mersey allowing you to take in the picturesque views over the mud banks of the River Mersey to the fields of Moore and Daresbury.

The Ferry Tavern serves a wide variety of meals and there are at least five hand pulled beers, with an incredible variety of whiskeys. The main building includes a lounge with a real log fire; bar with table football and dart board, and upstairs there is a non-smoking lounge/dinning area.

The Ferry Tavern is steeped in history, originally built in 1762 to quench the thirst of travellers waiting to cross the Mersey on the local ferry. The Ferry is the perfect summer retreat for both couples and families alike.

The Sportsman's Arms
The Sportsman's Arms
The Sportsman's Arms is situated opposite the Red Lion, on Warrington Road. After extensive refurbishment in 1997 The Sportsman's Arms now has a large and lively bar area with pool table, dart board, jukebox and large screen television.

There are two smaller lounge rooms where a wide range of bar meals can be consumed. Being part of Burtonwood Breweries, The Sportsman's Arms serves many quality lager's as well as the local Burtonwood bitter.

The Sportsman's Arms is an extremely popular venue attracting the younger residents of Penketh and can become extremely busy at weekends.


The Crown and Cushion, on Farnworth Road, opposite the Penketh Late Shop is a cosy public house, being a member of the Greenalls brewery the Crown serves Greenalls Bitter along with Carling and Labbatts Lager's.

The Crown and Cushion has an extensive lounge with non-smoking, and bar area including dart board and television.

There is a small beer garden to the rear of the building, unfortunately there are no children's play facilities.

The Crown and Cushion also serves food throughout the day and evening.
